Why do we die?
As we all know death is part of life and it leaves us feeling heartbroken, sad, and angry. Since death impacts every one of us it is important to understand death and why it happens. What is death? The separation of the soul from the body. It is the beginning of another existence in heaven or hell. Why do people die? In Genesis 2:17 God tells Adam that eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil will result in death.
No, God didn’t say you would die immediately after eating off the tree. God never clarified to Adam when he would die. Sin entered through Adam, now we all inherently are sinners and deal with death and suffering. This passage is God telling Adam the consequence of sin is death. Death is going to happen to ALL of us at some point. We will have to face it ourselves and witness the death of our loved ones. This can be such a hard concept to grasp, especially when death happens to babies, children, young adults, and even those who are older. We end up asking ourselves and others around us “How can God take the life of a 15-year-old?” “No loving and caring God would do that.” You’re right, God wouldn’t do that, but sin did! God told Adam what would happen should he eat from The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam and Eve had a choice to make, they chose to eat from the tree. We live in a fallen world. Sin is the reason we die. Sin is responsible for many things and I will write about sin on my next blog.
Paul explains in Romans 5:12 sin entered the world through one man ( Adam). Paul also tells us in Romans 5:15 "….how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!” We have salvation through Jesus Christ. We may die here and leave our flesh ( body) behind...but our eternity, for those who believe Jesus is our Lord and Savor we now have our eternity with our Father! God loves us enough to give us free will to love and obey Him. I wasn’t there with Adam and Eve none of us were so it's easy to say what we would or wouldn’t do if we were in their positions. It doesn’t matter because none of this changes why we have death and that reason is because of sin. Having a relationship with our God and salvation through Jesus Christ is what matters.
Amen!
Have a blessed day!
